Recent Legislative Activities:
US Representative Shelley Berkley (D-NV1) has introduced a bill that would amend the IRS Code of 1986 to repeal the reduction in the deductible part of business meals and entertainment. The bill was referred to the House Ways & Means Committee on January 26, 2011. NAMVE supports this bill because it will help encourage businesses to spend money on entertainment and help keep our members employed.

The House of Representatives recently passed H. R.1 which would fund the federal government till the end of 2011.

This bill contains several cuts which would be devastating to NAMVE members and the arts community as a whole including:

  • Nine amendments which would eliminate a number of provisions in the Health Care Reform law that were passed in 2010.
  • A reduction of $86 million in The Corporation For Public Broadcasting budget.
  • 26% cut to The National Endowment For The Arts budget
  • Elimination of the Arts In Education Program

NAMVE also is active in the efforts to fight back against the budget cuts being propose to Social Security, Medicare and other social programs that are vital to the health and security of all Americans.

NAMVE encourages you to contact your two Congressional Representative and Your Senator to let them know that you oppose these cuts.
